Apple
I am part of the rose family and native to Central Asia.
An ancient Greek who wanted to propose marriage would throw an apple to object of his affection – if she caught it, his offer had been accepted.
Throughout history, the apple symbolised luxury, pleasure, love, fertility and jealousy.
Celtic myths describe me as the fruit of the gods and immortality.
The Cox's Orange Pippin was grown in 1830 from a pip planted by a London brewer, Richard Cox. Most Cox's consumed in the UK are now imported from China because they are cheaper to grow.
