Leek
I originated in Southern Europe and Western Asia around 2000 BC ago
My preserved remains have been found in Egyptian tombs.
The Romans introduced me to Britain.
The Emperor Nero was very fond of me as he thought I would improve his singing voice. He was given the nickname porrophagus, leek-eater, although no one called him this to his face!
I am national emblem of Wales and worn on St David’s Day.
